Dr. Jim’s Turtle Brownies

I started this recipe based on my friend Jim's Turtle Brownie recipe...I altered it slightly but either way it's delish!!

Ingredients:

Brownie:

1 box German Chocolate Cake Mix
1 C Milk
2 eggs
1 stick butter (melted)

Lightly beat all wet ingredients until blended then add the cake mix while stirring.

Spray a 13x9 baking pan and spread ½ of the batter. Batter will be thick so I use an offset spatula to get it spread evenly.

Bake for 20 minutes at 350 degrees.

Filling:

1 bag of caramels
¼- ½ C milk
10 oz. bittersweet chocolate chips
6 oz. pecan halves or pieces

Unwrap the caramels and put in microwave safe bowl with milk (start with ¼ C and add more milk if needed). Microwave in 30 sec to 1 minute increments stopping to stir milk and caramels until caramels are a pourable ribbon-like consistency. (if you are scared to microwave sugar or caramel this can be done on a double boiler, but it will take a little longer).

Remove brownie bottom from oven and spread chocolate chips, pecans and last caramel. Drop spoonfuls of the remaining brownie batter over the top lightly spreading it but leaving open spots for the filling to show through.

Bake again for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Remove and allow to cool before eating (if you can).
